Choosing a program
Not necessarily. We choose the format according to your experience, fitness and the type of climbing you want to do. There are options for a first outdoor or mountain experience, as well as more technical programs that require a careful level check.
Trips are guided by NewClimb mountain guides and climbing instructors based in Almaty. The team works on rock, ice and alpine programs across Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Guide profiles and background are available on the About / Guides page →
Yes. We can easily arrange 1–3 day rock climbing or ice climbing programs near Almaty, as well as selected 2–3 day technical courses. Other rock and ice climbing destinations, alpine routes and more advanced mountain training usually work better with more time.
- Rock climbing usually works from March to November.
- Waterfall ice climbing is from December to February.
- Alpine ice routes, for example in Ala-Archa, are climbed from September to March.
- Alpine and custom programs depend on the route, season, current conditions and your previous experience.
We provide the special climbing equipment needed for our programs. Personal climbing gear is usually available for rent if needed. Each program page includes a gear list, and once we know which program you choose, we’ll send you a clear final list.
- Kazakhstan works better for short, logistically simple trips based around Almaty. NewClimb is based in Almaty, and many rock and ice climbing areas are close enough for 1–3 day programs without expedition-style logistics. You can stay comfortably in the city and go out for full climbing sessions each day. We also develop local training areas around Almaty and establish new climbing routes, which helps us run safe, structured and enjoyable technical courses and climbing programs.
- Kyrgyzstan is better for longer, more expedition-style trips with bigger mountains, more remote terrain and more challenging alpine objectives.
