TRAD Climbing
Traditional climbing (or "Trad" climbing), is a form of free climbing where the lead climber places his own protection points into the climbing route while ascending.

Traditional climbing differs from sport climbing that has the climbing protection already pre-bolted into the route.
About the program
This course is designed for experienced climbers who are familiar with sport lead climbing and are seeking the thrill of TRAD climbing. We'll cover all the essential trad climbing gear, including nuts, cams, and pitons. You'll get hands-on experience placing protection and building secure anchors. After learning the basics, we'll start climbing easy routes to build confidence while placing gear. Then, we will move on to more challenging routes.

TRAD climbing is also an essential part of safe and confident alpine climbing. This program is a part of our "Mountaineering course".

I first saw Konstantin at the winter climbing festival held at the Butakovka Waterfall. He was opening new routes, installing obstacles, and after the festival ended, I even saw him breaking the ice to ensure the safety of future visitors. Even from a distance, his presence was commanding—his charisma was truly overwhelming.

Curious about who he was, I naturally began to look into his background. Eventually, I had the chance to meet him in person—and he became my teacher.

Climbing with him started with the basics: hammering pitons into cracks in the rock. He photographed every piece of gear I placed—both pitons and cams—and carefully observed each of my moves. We reviewed the photos and videos together. He generously praised what I did well and explained my mistakes in precise detail.

Through this process, I began to gain real confidence in traditional climbing. After several falls and repeated attempts, I finally completed a difficult route. In just two short days, I could feel a dramatic improvement in my skills.

It was a truly unforgettable adventure — and the perfect lesson.
